In this tutorial, you will send one Broadcast to a **Segmented Subscriber** audience and insert variables such as `{name}`.

**Time needed:** 12 minutes

## Before you start

Make sure:

- You are logged in to Wabot.
- The WhatsApp account you will send from shows **Online**.
- That account already has subscribers.
- At least some contacts have a name or other custom field.

> Start with a tight filter and a small count. Do not send to everyone on the first try.

> Only send to people who asked to get messages from you.

## 1. Open Broadcast and click Create

On the left menu, click **Broadcast**, then click **Create**.

Enter a **Broadcast Name**.

**Example:** `Active Chat Follow Up`

## 2. Choose Segmented Subscriber

Select **Unofficial API**, then pick the account that is **Online**.

Choose **Segmented Subscriber**.

The **Total Subscribers** count loads for that account.

  <div class="doc-shot-ph-frame" role="img" aria-label="Segmented Subscriber selected">
    <span class="doc-shot-ph-kicker">Screenshot example</span>
    <strong class="doc-shot-ph-title">Segmented Subscriber selected</strong>
<span class="doc-shot-ph-hint">Clean UI. No real names, emails, or chats.</span>
  </div>
</figure>

## 3. Add one condition

In the condition builder, set:

- Field: **Chatbot AI Status**
- Operator: **Is**
- Value: **Active**

You can also use **Created Date** or **Last Activity (Days)**.

On **Official API**, you can filter **24-Hour Window Expiry** to **Active (Within 24h)** before you send a regular message.

Optional:

- **Also in Groups** to keep only people who are also in those groups.
- **Exclude Groups (Optional)** to remove a group.

Check the recipient count. Keep it small for this tutorial.

Click **Continue**.

## 4. Insert a variable in the message

Choose **Text & Media**, then **Caption Only**.

Type a short message, then click a variable tag such as `{name}`.

> Hi `{name}`, thanks for chatting with us. Here is a quick update.

The variable is inserted at the cursor.

Check the preview.

If you see **Send Test Message**, send one to your own number first.

Click **Continue**.

## 5. Send it now

Choose **Send Now**.

Review the audience count and message. Click **Launch Broadcast**.

## Make sure it worked

This tutorial worked when:

- The recipient count matches your segment, not the whole account.
- The Broadcast is **Sending** or **Completed**.
- The test phone shows the person’s name, not the text `{name}`.

## If it didn’t work

### The count is zero

- Select an account that has subscribers.
- Loosen the condition, or remove **Also in Groups** / **Exclude Groups**.
- Click **Retry** if the count failed to load.

### `{name}` appears as text

The contact has no value for that field. Add the name in the contact, or use another variable.

### Some variables are missing

On a **Segmented Subscriber** audience, some fields such as phone are hidden. Use the tags shown under the message box.

### Continue is disabled

- Fill in **Broadcast Name**.
- Select an account.
- Wait until the recipient count loads.

## Next

The segmented Broadcast is done. Next, resend to people who failed or did not reply.
